Jackie Old A tale of the future told in the past Single edition by Armistead Maupin Darryl Vance Literature Fiction eBooks

What if presidential widow Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis had lived long enough to become a reclusive eccentric like her first cousin “Little Edie” Beale of “Grey Gardens” fame? In this “lost comic gem” -- published for the first time in thirty-four years – the author of the legendary Tales of the City series speculates wildly on Jackie O’s future in the distant, almost unimaginable year of 1999.
As usual, Maupin’s tone is both bittersweet and achingly funny in this tale of a post-catastrophic San Francisco and a young man’s resilient love for his mother.

I just came over to my computer to tell you what I thought of "Jackie Old". Someone could hand me a book without a cover, nor anyway to tell who wrote it and if you had I would know immediately....Your stories, no matter how 'jeweled elephant', are immediately recognizable. I feel like I am wrapped up in a warm quilt with the best book ever, everytime I read something of yours.....Thank you, Thank you.If you have not read Armistead Maupins books you are missing out.....Start with his 'Tales of the City' and go from there.

Jackie Old A tale of the future told in the past Single edition by Armistead Maupin Darryl Vance Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Only Mr Maupin could write a story so fun and so real - yet not. This story is exactly what to expect from the genius who brought us Mary Ann and Ana.
Armistead Maupin continues to delight! The only problem I had is in reconciling how Jackie and her sweet son could have become involved, (yet alone the son married) with/to that harridan harping bitch.
The Christian Right besieges San Francisco post earthquake, and receive an unlikely welcome from an unlikely hero. I wanted more but this was fun reading.
Great quick read! Armistead Maupin does it again. A little dated at times but a fun and quick to read!
Very fun read. Although a short story, it was an enjoyable fictional take on the lives of people we no longer have the pleasure of having with us. -)
I missed this little gem by Armistad Maupin the first time round and was so pleasantly surprised at the delightful imagination and inventive twists and turns placed onto some of our favorite characters in recent history. Well done, I've shared this over and over and will continue...
This thirty-four year old short story was my (long overdue) introduction to the imagination of Armistead Maupin. (Apparently he's been writing for...ever---I forgot how long---but for me his name just conjured up an incongruous image of kidnapped Africans and a nineteenth century French writer. Hopefully I've got it straight, and won't go around extolling the talent of Amistad Maupassant.) Not only did this story entertain in a big way (and it is soooo, so funny---not so-so---soooo,so), but because I was so ignorant about details regarding these public figures (and I'm in my fifties) I "looked up" each of them afterward for scraps of truth (Jackie really was friends with Capote), which was also fun and interesting. I'm not sure if you can tell, but I'm doing everything I can not to say too much (the story is short enough)---but if you're looking for a transport to a feel-good place (somewhere that a mayor, like her dad, can't get no satisfaction and POTUS, well, Praise the Lord he wasn't) then settle down to this lighthearted, endearing, and delightful tale---and let a humble and loving son tell you how his sad and reclusive mom found herself anew in the company of some charming, dressed-like-her drag queens.
